Series of photographs of men gathered in a ya-gwa- (small house), also known as a ghost house, in a port town. Harbour workers, umintu (fishermen) who have just returned from fishing, the unemployed, vagrants... This is a men-only world where men gather for a moment's peace of mind by sharing money to buy alcohol, or by being treated by those with money. At first glance, these men may appear to be a group of gruff old men, but Ishikawa was fascinated by the honesty of their lives and the honesty with which they lived their lives. At the request of photographer Keizo Kitajima, the exhibition was shown for the first time in more than 20 years as a stand-alone series at the Shinjuku Photographers' Gallery in February 2012, and attracted a lot of attention. Shomei Tomatsu was involved in the selection of prints for the exhibition. Cover design by Mutsu Minoru Naga, editing and layout by Kenshichi Heshiki. The book was later re-released with a new binding, but it is an extremely valuable original.

港町のヤーグヮー(小さな家)、別名・幽霊屋敷に集まる男達を撮影したシリーズ。港湾で働く者、漁から帰ってきたばかり のウミンチュ(漁師)、失業者、浮浪者...。ヌチャーシー(金を出し合う)をして酒を買ったり、あるいは金のある者がおごったりして、ひとときのやすらぎを求め集まる男だけの世界。一見、コワモテのおじさん達ではあるが、石川は、彼らの中に実に自分に正直に生きている素直さを感じ、心ひかれた。 写真家北島敬三のリクエストにより、2012年2月新宿photographers’ galleryで、20年以上ぶりに単独シリー ズとして公開され話題となった。展示会用のプリント選定には東松照明が関わった。表紙デザインに名嘉睦稔、編集・レイアウトに平敷兼七。その後、新しい装丁で再販されたが、非常に価値のあるオリジナルとなる一冊。
